Special Needs Teaching Assistant - Fulham 1:1 Support for Non-Verbal Child with Autism (Reception Class) Start Date: September 2025

A nurturing and inclusive primary school in Fulham is seeking a Special Needs Teaching Assistant to join their team from September 2025. This is a full-time, term-time only position providing dedicated 1:1 support for a child in Reception who is non-verbal and has autism.

This is a rewarding opportunity to make a meaningful difference in a child's early school experience, supporting their communication, learning, and emotional development.

Key Responsibilities:

Work closely with the class teacher and SENCO to deliver a tailored support plan.

Use alternative communication strategies such as PECS, visual timetables, and Makaton.

Create a calm, safe, and structured learning environment.

Encourage positive social interaction and engagement in classroom activities.

Build a strong, trusting relationship with the child and collaborate closely with their family and external professionals.

The ideal candidate will:

Have experience working with children with autism, ideally in an early years or primary setting.

Be familiar with strategies for supporting non-verbal communication.

Show patience, empathy, and consistency in their approach.

Be proactive, calm under pressure, and passionate about inclusive education.
