Job Description: Sous Chef at Sandburn Hall, North Yorkshire. YO60 7RB About Us: Sandburn Hall is a prestigious family-owned leisure business, nestled in a picturesque landscape of over 1,000 acres of serene lakes and enchanting woodland. Currently the business incorporates a 40-bed hotel (opened in 2021), 18-hole golf course, Sports Bar, 3 Event spaces & Tykes restaurant (known for its elegant dining experiences and exceptional service). In January 2025 our restaurant underwent a major refurbishment, including a state-of-the-art kitchen with full induction capabilities; the scheduled works were completed early February 2025. We are now seeking a talented and passionate Sous Chef to join our dynamic team and play a key role in the success of our new kitchen. Role Overview: As Sous Chef, you will work closely with our Head Chef to deliver an outstanding dining experience for our guests. You will bring your culinary expertise to the team, helping to elevate the food offering and streamline kitchen operations/processes. The role requires strong leadership skills, a commitment to food safety, and the ability to work collaboratively within a dynamic kitchen environment. This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced chef to help shape the future of our kitchen during this very exciting period of change. Key Responsibilities: Assist the Head Chef in creating, developing, and maintaining a high-quality menu that showcases local produce and culinary innovation. Lead the kitchen team during service, ensuring smooth operations and maintaining the highest standards of food quality and presentation. Oversee kitchen staff, including training, development, and performance management. Ensure all health, safety, and hygiene regulations are strictly adhered to at all times. Support the management of kitchen stock, ordering, and controlling food costs to ensure profitability. Help maintain a positive and productive working environment, leading by example and fostering a team-oriented culture. Ensure that all dishes are presented beautifully and meet the restaurant's quality standards. Covering the Head Chef during scheduled days off and holidays. About You: We are looking for an experienced Sous Chef who has a passion for food and a commitment to excellence. You should possess: Proven experience working in a similar role, ideally within a fine dining or high-quality restaurant environment. Strong leadership skills with the ability to manage, motivate, and inspire a kitchen team. A creative approach to menu development and a keen interest in seasonal, local ingredients. Solid knowledge of kitchen operations, stock management, and cost control. A strong work ethic and the ability to remain calm under pressure.
