Location: Stockport
Salary: Circa £35,000 (DOE)
Hours: Full-time, Monday to Friday (with evening & weekend on-call cover on a rota basis)

My client is seeking an experienced Senior Transport Planner to join a busy and well-established transport operation in Stockport. This is a key role within the operations team, responsible for planning and coordinating a general haulage fleet while ensuring compliance, efficiency, and strong commercial performance across both rigid and articulated vehicles.

Key Responsibilities:

Plan and allocate transport resources effectively to ensure smooth daily operations and maintain service levels
Adjust transport plans in response to operational changes, delays, or unexpected issues
Communicate clearly with drivers regarding job allocations, updates, and end-of-day debriefs
Build and maintain strong relationships with customers, always ensuring a high level of service
Identify and develop opportunities to work with new customers and approved sub-contractors
Make sound commercial decisions when allocating work to sub-contractors
Ensure all vehicles and equipment are scheduled correctly and remain compliant with legal requirements
Accurately update and maintain transport management system (TMS) records
Work closely with internal departments to support smooth and efficient operations
Provide out-of-hours support on a rota basis via telephone
Carry out general administrative duties to support the wider team

Job skills required:

Strong understanding of driver hours and transport compliance regulations
Good geographical knowledge of the UK road network
Confident communicator, both written and verbal
Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage changing priorities
Comfortable working under pressure in a busy environment
High attention to detail and accuracy in all aspects of work
Competent IT skills, including xbpsjku Microsoft Office and transport systems
A team player who can also work independently when required
Ability to build strong working relationships with drivers, customers, and suppliers
