Job Description
Role: Senior Software Engineer (Data & Platform) @ VC Firm
Location: London – Hybrid (3 days)
Compensation: Up to £200,000 + equity
We’re working with a high-performing venture capital firm building a proprietary technology platform that sits at the heart of how they identify, evaluate, and partner with exceptional companies. The engineering function operates like an internal startup: small, fast-moving, and deeply embedded in the investment process.
As a Senior Software Engineer, you’ll take full ownership of the firm’s core data platform — the primary day-to-day tool used by partners to source and assess opportunities. You’ll work end-to-end across data, backend, and product experience, with significant autonomy to shape both the technical direction and how the platform evolves over time.
What you’ll do
Own and evolve a mission-critical internal data platform used daily by senior stakeholders.
Build and maintain data pipelines, backend services, and user-facing product features.
Work hands-on across the stack, from Python-based data workflows to web application front-ends.
Design scalable, maintainable systems that support complex, real-world decision making.
Deploy and operate systems in the cloud, taking responsibility for reliability and performance.
Collaborate closely with non-technical users, turning ambiguous problems into robust technical solutions.
Take accountability for technical decisions and the long-term evolution of the platform.
You should have
Experience working in startup or similarly unstructured environments.
A high degree of autonomy and comfort driving your own direction.
A background where ownership, delivery, and problem-solving were central.
Strong product instincts and the discipline to operate in a high-standards environment.
Curiosity about technology, startups, and how software creates strategic advantage.
The maturity to think independently, figure things out, and operate without heavy process.
Stack
Python, Typescript
SQL
Full-stack web development
Web data & infrastructure (exposure to web scraping is a bonus)
Linux & developer tooling
Cloud deployment
Why it’s exciting
You’ll own a core platform that directly influences high-stakes decisions.
Operate with real autonomy — not a cog in a machine, but a driver of outcomes.
Work at the intersection of software engineering, data, and venture investing.
Build from first principles in an environment that values pragmatism and initiative.
High trust, high expectations, and meaningful ownership from day one.
If you’re excited by the idea of fully owning a core platform and building technology that directly shapes important decisions, we’d love to hear from you.
