About Network Rail
Join Our Dynamic Capital Delivery Team!
You will be part of the North West & Central Region (NW&C) which consist of three routes – North West, Central and West Coast South – and a regional team supporting Regional Major Programmes & Professional services.
Are you ready to be part of the driving force behind the region's rail transformation? Our Capital Delivery team is at the heart of delivering innovative projects that meet the soaring demand for rail travel. Here's how we make a difference:
- Boosting Capacity : We expand our network to welcome more passengers and increase freight movements.
- Enhancing Speed and Reliability : By upgrading tracks, we enable faster trains and shorter journey times.
- Renewing Infrastructure : We keep the network dependable, ensuring smooth travel for people and goods.
- Revamping Stations : We elevate the passenger experience with modern, user-friendly stations.
Collectively, we commit to ‘Making Tracks Together’ across Capital Delivery and our Supply Chain, to drive efficiency, champion safety, and build the best possible railway for passengers and freight. This pledge is driven by innovation, shapes our interactions and defines our commitment to excellence.
Brief Description
As a member of the Capital Delivery Euston Engineering team, you will play a pivotal role in the safe and efficient delivery and assurance of engineering works across the Redevelopment of Euston Conventional Station (RECS) and a range of shorter-term intervention projects aimed at enhancing the station experience for our customers.
The RECS project is a transformative £1.5bn programme that will leave a lasting legacy in the surrounding area—driving regeneration and delivering a world-class transport interchange. The project must integrate seamlessly with the new HS2 station currently under construction, as well as a new and upgraded London Underground station that will sit beneath both mainline terminals. It is a highly complex and fascinating scheme that demands strong engineering leadership to ensure successful delivery and the realisation of key outcomes.
In this role, you will act as the Designated Project Engineer (DPE) across a variety of project packages, working collaboratively with sponsors, project managers, the station operations team, and key stakeholders including HS2, Camden Council, the Greater London Authority (GLA), and others. As a result, strong communication skills are essential as you will be representing Network Rail in stakeholder meetings.
Given the complexity of mechanical and electrical (M&E) assets at Euston, this role requires an M&E bias. Effective long-term management and integration of these assets is critical to ensuring a safe, resilient, and future-proofed station environment.
About The Role (External)
- Carry out the duties of Designated Project Engineer (DPE).
- Implement Network Rail systems and procedures to deliver a cost effective, high quality and safe approach to design, construction, commissioning and other technical activities on relevant projects. Review all relevant legislation and liaise with relevant governmental departments.
- Monitor the competence of all Project Engineers working on projects within the functional discipline and provide functional guidance, direction and briefing.
- Represent Network Rail and the project in stakeholder forums
- Provide M&E technical advice to supply chain and colleagues as required
- Drafting of Contract Requirements Technical (CRT) for projects
- Apply engineering controls and procedures to all projects so all design and construction contracts include reference to appropriate Railway Group and Network Rail Company standards applicable to their discipline.
- Advise project and programme management in respect of all construction activities, testing and commissioning, and site supervision. Monitor whether the design and construction elements meet the requirements of legislation, including construction design management (CDM) regulations.
- Monitor the competency of contractors’ design, construction and specialist personnel.
- Undertake reviews of design and construction activities. Arrange audits of contractors to monitor whether safety and quality of design, construction testing and commissioning and management systems are adequate.
- Significant experience in engineering disciplines, ideally with involvement in construction and design projects across multi discipline areas
- Technical qualifications to at least HNC level or equivalent
- Membership of a relevant professional institution
- Experience of contracting
- Knowledge of structuring safety cases in support of projects
- Knowledge of safety management and quality assurance
- Understanding of the arrangements required for the independent assessment of works
- Accident investigation experience
- Experience in the delivery of Railway projects
- Six Sigma Yellow Belt
- Chartered status or equivalent in the particular discipline
- Appreciation of environmental issues in engineering works
Salary : £55,596 - £65,966 + London Weighting (Inner London Allowance)
Closing date : Friday 08 August 2025. Late applications will not be accepted. We may close the advert early if we receive a large volume of applicants.
