We are looking for a talented Senior Project Controls Manager to join our Defence team and support the successful delivery of complex, high‑profile programmes within secure and sensitive environments. This is a fantastic opportunity to play a strategic role in shaping nationally significant defence projects, strengthening programme governance, and leading PMO and Project Controls delivery.
You’ll be responsible for:
- Managing PMO and Project Controls performance on assigned defence commissions.
- Creating, designing, and implementing effective PMO and Project Controls strategies, including assurance and audit frameworks.
- Directing clients, consultants, contractors, and internal teams on all PMO and Project Controls matters.
- Building strong professional relationships with defence clients and stakeholders.
- Providing expert advice across cost, schedule, change, risk, and reporting governance.
- Facilitating structured progress reporting, governance boards, and performance reviews.
- Developing, maintaining, and managing project baselines (scope, time, cost, risk, assumptions) and monitor subsequent performance, change, and contingency.
- Supporting quantitative analysis for cost and schedule.
- Working closely with PMO Directors and Project Managers to identify actions, opportunities, and mitigations.
- Ensuring all operations align with the Mace control centre, defence client requirements, and relevant legislation.
- Line‑manage a team of PMO and Project Controls professionals (1–4 direct reports).
- Mentoring and supporting the technical and career development of PMO and Project Controls team members.
- Managing the integration of Project Controls with PMO and Planning functions.
- Supporting resourcing and recruitment for defence programmes.
- Contributing to net‑zero objectives by identifying and managing carbon considerations in project delivery.
You’ll need to have:
- Experience directing PMO and Project Controls on complex construction or infrastructure projects.
- Experience developing PMO and Project Controls frameworks, audits, and assurance strategies.
- Strong technical capability across cost, schedule, risk, change, and reporting.
- Proficiency in key tools such as MS Office, Power BI, Aconex, Primavera P6, and RiskHive.
- Strong understanding of the full project lifecycle within construction and consultancy environments.
- Excellent stakeholder engagement and influencing skills, including senior stakeholders.
- Experience managing and mentoring a team.
- Experience delivering PMO and Project Controls services within construction or consultancy.
- APM planning and project controls (PPC) foundation and practitioner, or equivalent.
- Progress toward chartership and/or membership of a relevant professional institution (e.g., APM).
- Experience delivering in defence or other highly regulated sectors (rail, nuclear, highways, public sector, healthcare).
- Experience working both client‑side and consultancy.
- Knowledge of data analytics, Power BI dashboards, and digital reporting tools.
- Familiarity with risk tools such as Primavera Risk Analyser, @Risk, or Active Risk Manager.
- Degree in construction, engineering, or a related field.
- Progress toward MSP, P3O, or P3M3 accreditation.
