About the role
This senior operational leadership role oversees machine shop operations, manufacturing performance, people development and continuous improvement. The incumbent manages a multi‑discipline team of more than fifty staff, ensuring efficient use of labour and equipment to produce high‑quality products on time while meeting health and safety requirements.
Key responsibilities
Ensure all risk and COSHH assessments are in place.
Contribute to strategy decisions, including budget planning and production improvement.
Lead and develop CNC machining and production engineering teams.
Drive safety, quality, delivery and productivity performance.
Manage capital investment, equipment strategy and technology adoption.
Oversee new product introduction and design‑for‑manufacture activities.
Implement Lean manufacturing and continuous improvement programmes.
Optimise CNC programming, CAM usage, tooling and fixturing strategies.
Lead root‑cause analysis and corrective action programmes.
Manage and drive introduction of new products in partnership with production engineering and operations teams.
Candidate skills
Excellent organisational and planning skills.
Proven experience managing leading CNC machinery shop manufacturing operations.
Strong lean manufacturing and continuous improvement background.
Overall knowledge of machining processes, tooling, fixturing and CAM.
Experience leading, coaching and developing technical teams.
HNC / HND or higher in Mechanical, Manufacturing or Production Engineering (or equivalent experience).
Confident communicator with strong organisational and stakeholder management ability.
Demonstrate experience utilising continuous improvement tools such as VSM, SMED, TPM, Kaizen, 5S, Kanban and error‑proofing.
