Our client, a leading global financial services infrastructure provider, is seeking an experienced Senior Lawyer to join their EMEA legal team based in London.
About Our Client
Our client is the premier post-trade market infrastructure organisation for the global financial services industry. They automate, centralise, and standardise the processing of financial transactions, mitigating risk and enhancing performance for thousands of broker/dealers, custodian banks, and asset managers.
The Role
Reporting to the Head of Legal – EMEA, this position offers the opportunity to help launch a new commercial product within the broader business, effectively a start-up opportunity under the umbrella of a secure parent business.
The successful candidate will act as the primary legal contact for the new business unit, crafting solutions that align with regulatory requirements while mitigating operational risks.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide autonomous legal support with commercial awareness across English and EU law
- Manage complex legal matters across regulated and unregulated business lines in EMEA
- Partner effectively with cross-functional teams including Compliance, Business, Product, Technology, Operations, and Sales
- Collaborate with Legal teams across Americas and APAC regions to ensure consistent global approach
- Review, draft, and negotiate diverse commercial agreements balancing business objectives with regulatory compliance
- Conduct regulatory horizon scanning to develop proactive compliance strategies
- Support new business initiatives, product development, and service offerings from a legal perspective
- Assist with incident responses and investigations as required
- Maintain governance practices and monitor control effectiveness
- Handle corporate legal matters and ad-hoc projects, often under tight deadlines
Essential Requirements
- 5-12 years PQE as a qualified UK lawyer (solicitor or barrister with current practicing certificate)
- Financial Services Law Experience - private practice background with focus on financial services in heavily regulated environments
- In-house Experience preferred within a regulated financial entity
- Strong understanding of UK market regulatory requirements and experience with regulatory agencies
- Solid grasp of legal risk management principles
- Interest in general contract, corporate, and commercial law
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience preferred
