Frimley Health Foundation Trust has an exciting vacancy for a fixed‑term Band 6 Senior Gastroenterology Dietitian to join our Gastroenterology Dietetic team at Wexham Park Hospital. This role is advertised as 3 days a week, with potential for increased hours.

This Dietitian will be responsible for specialist assessment, treatment, and management of gastroenterology and complex medical patients. The successful applicant will work closely with the MDT and colleagues to contribute towards the best care approach in a wide range of gastrointestinal disorders, e.g. IBD, eating disorders, functional gut disorders, liver disease, IBS and pancreatic insufficiency. The role will be primarily inpatient focused with some outpatient clinic work and opportunities to contribute to research.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide specialist dietetic input to adult gastroenterology in both inpatient and outpatient settings.
  • Run an outpatient clinic autonomously and provide tailored dietary education and support to patients and carers.
  • Assess, plan and manage dietetic interventions for a clinical caseload independently.
  • Use behavioural change techniques and motivational interviewing to support patient self‑management.
  • Act as integral member of the multi‑disciplinary team and represent the dietetics department in meetings and clinical governance.
  • Support service development and delivery of education sessions.
  • Contribute to service development and quality improvement initiatives, supporting ongoing IBD, eating disorder and hepatology projects.
  • Provide supervision and support to junior staff, students or assistants as appropriate.

Qualifications

Essential criteria:

  • Recognised degree or postgraduate diploma in nutrition and dietetics or equivalent.
  • HCPC registration.
  • Relevant post‑qualification training courses.

Desirable criteria:

  • Member of BDA.
  • Member of specialist interest group.
  • Student supervision training.

Skills & Knowledge

Essential criteria:

  • Problem solving.
  • Time management, prioritisation and organisation.
  • Ability to work autonomously and in a team.
  • Communication and management of sensitive information/situations.
  • Training of patients, carers and health‑care professionals.
  • Interpersonal skills: observation, listening, empathy.
  • Ability to research and translate evidence‑based practice into application.

Desirable criteria:

  • Basic management skills.
  • Presentation skills.

Experience

Essential criteria:

  • Post‑registration clinical dietetic experience.
  • Experience working with complex oral, enteral and parenteral patients.
  • Audit or quality improvement work.
  • Discharging patients on home enteral nutrition.
  • Demonstrated high level of expertise within a range of clinical dietetics.
  • Training and supervision support for staff and students.

Desirable criteria:

  • Management of complex outpatients.
