Overview
I am currently recruiting for a Senior Electrical, Control & Instrumentation (EC&I) Design Engineer to join a leading engineering team supporting critical projects at Sellafield. This role offers the opportunity to work on highly regulated, safety‑critical systems within one of the UK's most complex and secure environments.
You will play a key role in the design and delivery of EC&I systems across a variety of projects, ensuring compliance with stringent industry and regulatory standards. The position involves close collaboration with multidisciplinary teams, including regular interfacing with commissioning teams to ensure seamless transition from design through to implementation and operation.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and deliver EC&I design activities for complex, high‑integrity systems
Produce and review technical documentation including:
Control system architecture
Wiring diagrams and loop drawings
Instrument specifications and data sheets
Functional design specifications (FDS)
Ensure all designs comply with relevant industry standards, safety cases, and regulatory requirements
Interface closely with commissioning teams to support testing, validation, and system handover
Participate in design reviews, HAZOPs, and safety assessments
Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers where required
Liaise with stakeholders, clients, and multidisciplinary teams to ensure project alignment
Key Requirements
5+ years' experience as an EC&I Design Engineer
Background in highly regulated industries such as nuclear, oil & gas, chemical, or similar
Experience working within strict regulatory and safety frameworks
Proven ability to produce high‑quality design documentation
Strong communication skills and experience working with commissioning teams
Desirable Skills & Experience
Previous experience working on nuclear sites or Sellafield projects
Familiarity with relevant standards (e.g., IEC, BS, safety integrity levels – SIL)
Experience with functional safety and safety lifecycle processes
Chartered Engineer status or working towards accreditation
