We're looking for a Senior Design Manager to join our KierBAM Joint Venture team based in Plymouth – Devonport Royal Dockyard. The role involves 42.5 hours per week with flexible scheduling. Key requirements: BPSS security clearance is mandatory; the checking process may take up to 8 weeks. Candidates must be a citizen of a NATO or MISWG member state and have lived in the UK for the past five years. CSCS White PQP/AQP card and eligibility for Government Security Check (SC) Clearance are required. Responsibilities
Lead and manage design and engineering teams across multiple disciplines (Temporary Works, Digital Engineering, Concrete and Materials Management, Survey and Monitoring). Develop and oversee Temporary Works and Contractor Design Portion strategies, schedules, and deliverables to ensure alignment with project requirements. Coordinate design activities with project management and operational delivery teams for timely, seamless integration. Ensure compliance with contractual, regulatory, and quality requirements; review and approve design outputs and technical documentation. Manage resources, budgets, and risks; mentor and develop team members to foster continuous improvement.
Qualifications
Professionally qualified senior manager with at least 10 years post‑qualification (or 15 years’ relevant) experience and academic qualifications such as HNC, HND, BSc, MSc, BEng, or MEng. Significant experience in design and engineering leadership with strong project management and team leadership capabilities. Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, able to handle multiple priorities and deadlines. Thorough understanding of design processes, procedures, and standards; confident in client‑focused presentations and meetings. CSCS White PQP/AQP card and eligibility for Government Security Check (SC) Clearance; passport from a NATO or MISWG member country and UK residency for 5 years.
