Job Description
We are seeking an accomplished and innovative Senior Cloud Engineer to join the Cloud Platform team. In this role, you will be instrumental in managing, developing, and optimising Cloud Platform infrastructure solutions using Microsoft Azure! You will provide technical leadership in the automation of scalable environments, applying your expertise in Kubernetes, Terraform (IaC), and GitHub for code management and collaboration.
As a Senior Cloud Engineer, you will be part of the team that helps deliver the Bank's Cloud strategy by delivering robust, secure, and resilient systems. Your expertise in cloud networking, security, and operational best practices will empower you to lead changes, mentor junior engineers, and drive continuous service improvement. Significant hands-on experience with Azure resources and automation tools is critical for this position, along with a proactive approach to identifying and implementing emerging technologies.

A Day in the Role
A typical day would start with the team's stand-up meeting for the current sprint or Kanban board where you'll discuss your workload and any blockers. You may have project work or operational duties and relevant meetings to attend, where you'll be modernising the Bank through the services you're responsible for. You will also draft and raise change requests, troubleshoot issues, and ensure our monitoring tools are functioning correctly. You will take the initiative to draw insights from the performance data on the platform and produce advisory narratives for the appropriate product owners. Collaboration with cross-functional teams and continuous service improvement will be central to your role. You will assist more junior members in the team to give them added support.
Role Requirements
Minimum Criteria
We're looking for someone who has the following key skills and experience:
Overnight (24/7) on-call L2/L3 support experience with validated collaborator experience
Experience of a Cloud Platform (Azure ) with use of monitoring tooling for troubleshooting and drawing insights
Hands-on experience of CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions or similar tooling
Thorough experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) such as Terraform
Essential Criteria
We are interested in hearing from candidates who have the following capabilities:
Foundational knowledge of networking including network protocols, DNS, VPN, Load Balancing and Firewall
Hands-on experience with Kubernetes clusters and containerised environments
Experience with Prometheus, Grafana, Dynatrace, AppDynamics, Splunk, or AIOps on Azure Cloud or any similar observability tooling
Experience in SRE and/or DevOps roles, with working knowledge in SRE principles including automation a considerable plus
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, enabling effective engagement with a variety of partners, from technical teams to non-technical business functions
Eagerness to learn and promote knowledge sharing
Desirable Criteria
It would also be beneficial, but not mandatory, to have some or all of the following:
Experience with Agile ways of working
Knowledge of ITIL framework
Experience with Power Apps, Power BI, Power Automate, and Searching Intelligence

This role is part of the CTO Hosting Technical Services (HTS) domain which is responsible for selecting, delivering and continuously improving a portfolio of hosting services one of which is Cloud Platform. The Bank of England has made a foray into Cloud and have a number of exciting programs of work which will address technical and business challenges. Salary and Benefits Information
We encourage flexible working, part time working and job share arrangements. Part time salary and benefits will be on a pro-rated basis as appropriate.
We offer a salary as follows:
Leeds circa £55,280 - £62,190
In addition, we also offer a comprehensive benefits package as detailed below:
Currently a non-contributory, career average pension giving you a guaranteed retirement benefit of 1/80th of your annual salary for every year worked. There is the option to increase your pension (to 1/65th) or decrease (to 1/105th) in exchange for salary through our flexible benefits programme each year. The Bank has the discretion to vary standard accrual rates and dial up and dial down rates at any time and to withdraw dial up and dial down options at any time.
A discretionary performance award based on a current award pool.
An 8% benefits allowance with the option to take as salary or purchase a wide range of flexible benefits.
26 days' annual leave with option to buy up to 12 additional days through flexible benefits.

Security Vetting Process
