Senior Civil & Drainage Engineer – York
About the Role
Elb Recruit is supporting a long-established, multi-office UK engineering consultancy in the appointment of a Senior Civil & Drainage Engineer for its York team. The business has a strong track record delivering commercial, educational, residential, industrial, health, retail and leisure developments, and continues to play a key role in major construction projects across the country. With a reputation for technical expertise and practical, cost-effective engineering, the company offers a stable workload and excellent professional development opportunities.
As an experienced Senior Engineer within the Civil team, your primary focus will be to undertake and lead civil engineering design work, ensuring compliance with all relevant standards, regulations and best practice. You’ll use your technical knowledge to add value across a wide range of projects, including schools, colleges, universities, commercial and residential schemes, industrial facilities, petrochemical sites, food production facilities and energy sector developments.
You’ll oversee and contribute to the production of technical drawings, calculations and specifications, and work closely with multi-disciplinary teams to deliver coordinated design solutions. A key part of the role involves mentoring junior engineers, maintaining high technical standards, and building and maintaining strong relationships with clients and project stakeholders.
You’ll also be expected to plan your workload effectively, coordinating with colleagues to manage peaks and troughs in resource demand, and helping to prioritise project delivery across the team.
Key Qualifications & Experience
Strong knowledge and experience in Flood Risk and Water Resource Management
Proficiency in stormwater management and drainage systems design
Ability to develop effective drainage design strategies
Experience designing and detailing S38 & S104 works packages and submissions
Fully proficient in Autodesk AutoCAD Civils (Civil 3D)
Proficiency with drainage design software such as InfoDrainage and MicroDrainage
Strong problem-solving skills and high attention to detail
Excellent communication and teamwork abilities
A degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline is preferable but not essential
Terms & Conditions
Permanent role
37.5 hours per week, with flexible working between 8:30am and 5:00pm (Mon–Fri)
Salary dependent on qualifications and experience
25.5 days holiday plus birthday day off and bank holidays
