Key Responsibilities

• Provide tailored 1:1 and small group support to pupils with SEN, including ASD, ADHD, speech & language needs, SEMH, and learning disabilities.
• Assist the class teacher in adapting and delivering differentiated learning activities to meet individual needs.
• Support pupils in developing independence, confidence, communication, and social skills.
• Implement strategies outlined in EHCPs, behaviour plans, and individual learning plans.
• Promote positive behaviour, emotional regulation, and well-being through consistent, nurturing support.
• Prepare and organise resources to enhance learning experiences.
• Help pupils engage with classroom routines, transitions, and sensory or therapeutic activities.
• Work collaboratively with class teachers, SENCO, therapists, and external professionals to monitor progress.
• Maintain clear records of support, behaviour, and achievement where required.
• Ensure the classroom remains a safe, inclusive, and engaging environment for all pupils.

Person SpecificationEssential Skills & Qualities

• Experience working with children (SEN experience preferred but not essential).
• A positive, energetic, and proactive attitude.
• Strong communication and teamwork abilities.
• Patience, empathy, and resilience when supporting children with complex needs.
• Understanding of safeguarding, behaviour management, and inclusive practice.
• Ability to build trusting, supportive relationships with pupils.
• GCSE English & Maths (or equivalent qualifications).
• Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to obtain).

Desirable Skills

• Experience with ASD, SEMH, or non-verbal communication strategies (PECS, Makaton).
• Training in Team Teach, First Aid, or behaviour de-escalation. xbpsjku
