The organisation is seeking a Residential Childcare Worker (RSW) to join their dedicated team supporting young people with complex needs in Bilston, Edinburgh. This role is ideal for individuals who are compassionate, resilient, and committed to making a meaningful difference in the lives of young people. Staff play a vital role in providing stability, structure, and emotional support while helping young people feel safe, understood, and valued.

About the Role

As a Residential Childcare Worker, you will support two young people with severe learning disabilities, autism, and complex care needs within a residential setting.

Both young people are sensory-driven and thrive on predictable routines and structure. They enjoy spending time outdoors and benefit greatly from regular opportunities for sensory-based activities and experiences.

The young people use a range of communication tools, including visual supports and signing, and staff play a key role in helping them express themselves, feel heard, and reduce anxiety through a consistent communication approach.

They are two wonderful young people with very different personalities, and building trusting, meaningful relationships with them is at the heart of this role.

You will support them with all aspects of their daily lives including personal care, routines, emotional regulation, and accessing activities, while working as part of a supportive team.

Shift Pattern

This role is 37 hours per week, working afternoon shifts including evenings, weekends, and bank holidays. Shift Times: Monday to Friday 2:00pm

9:30pm Weekends 7:00am

2:30pm or 2:00pm

9:30pm Weekend hours may occasionally be condensed into double shifts depending on the needs of the service.

Key Responsibilities

Provide safe, person-centred care and support tailored to each young persons individual needs.

Support young people with all aspects of daily living, including personal care and routines.

Promote emotional regulation and wellbeing through calm, consistent, and therapeutic responses.

Support participation in activities, outdoor experiences, and sensory opportunities.

Use communication tools such as visual supports and signs to aid understanding and expression.

Build strong, trusting relationships with young people through patience, empathy, and consistency.

Maintain structured routines that support stability and reduce anxiety.

Work collaboratively with colleagues to provide consistent, high-quality care.

Maintain accurate records and documentation in line with care standards and policies.

Experience and Requirements

Experience in Residential Care, Special Educational Needs, Autism Support, or Positive Behaviour Support is beneficial but not essential. The organisation values attitude, commitment, and the ability to build meaningful relationships above all else.

Important Information About the Role
