Job Description
Quantity Surveyor / Cost Planner – Move from Consultancy to Contractor
(Commercial CAT A & B Fit Out)
Location: City of London
Salary: Up to £65,000 + package
About the role
A growing commercial fit out contractor in Central London is looking for a QS or Cost Planner who wants to move from consultancy into a contractor setting. This is ideal if you want more influence, quicker decisions and the chance to see your work turn into a real, built environment rather than staying purely advisory.
You’ll report directly into the Pre‑Construction Lead and Business Director, giving you visibility, support and autonomy. The culture is mature, low‑ego and built around trust rather than corporate process.
The projects
You’ll work on office fit out schemes including:
- CAT A and CAT B commercial fit outs
- Workplace refurbishments across Central London
- Projects of up to £10M
- Repeat clients across the office interiors sector
Key responsibilities
- Preparing cost plans, budgets and commercial forecasts
- Supporting early‑stage project strategy and bid work
- Procuring subcontractors and managing packages
- Managing valuations, variations and final accounts
- Working closely with Project Managers to maintain commercial performance
- Building long‑term relationships with clients and consultants
What we’re looking for
- Consultancy background in cost planning or quantity surveying
- Strong experience with CAT A / CAT B office fit out projects
- Motivated to move into a contractor environment
- Confident managing packages and working independently
- Proactive, commercially aware and detail‑driven
- Able to build trust quickly and work collaboratively
Why join?
- Growing contractor with a strong, stable pipeline
- Direct access to senior decision‑makers
- Hybrid working
- Mature, trust‑based environment without corporate red tape
- Freedom and responsibility to run your workload your way
- Clear progression as the business continues to expand
Salary & package
- Up to £65,000 basic (DOE)
- Competitive package
- Long‑term development and progression
If you are a Cost Planner or Quantity Surveyor from a consultancy background and want more ownership, more impact and more visibility, this move into a contractor could be the right step.
