Job Description

Are you an experienced Project Manager with a strong background in high-voltage substation projects, particularly involving transformer installations? NES Fircroft has been retained by Hyosung Heavy Industries UK to welcome a dedicated professional to their team to manage projects across the UK.

This is a key role, based in London with regular site travel, where you will oversee the full project lifecycle for transformer installation and delivery, primarily for National Grid (NG) and SP Energy Networks (SPEN) substations. You'll be instrumental in leading communications with stakeholders, ensuring projects are delivered efficiently, safely, and to the highest quality standards.

In this Project Manager role, your key responsibilities will involve:

  • Scoping, scheduling, and controlling projects from sales handover through the entire lifecycle, ensuring effective and timely delivery with high quality and safety standards.
  • Leading communication with all relevant parties, including subcontractors, HQ teams, factory personnel, and customers, and actively identifying and managing project risks.
  • Controlling all project documents (design, quality, progress reports, contractual deliverables) and developing monthly project status reports.
  • Managing contracts, including claims, subcontractor invoices, and project invoicing, while ensuring projects are delivered within budget and identifying opportunities for margin.
  • Reading and reviewing engineering design drawings and installation procedures (RAMS), ensuring compliance with HSE and quality regulations (e.g., CDM-2015, ITP, Project Quality Plan), and leading risk mitigation.

To be successful in this Project Manager position, you will need a robust background in project management within the energy sector. We are looking for candidates with:

  • 5+ years of project management experience, specifically in high-voltage substation EPC projects, with essential experience handling 132KV+ transformers for DNOs like NG and SPEN.
  • Project Management qualification (or relevant experience), with an Electrical Engineering qualification being preferred.
  • Ability to read engineering design drawings, knowledge of Super Grid Transformer installation procedures, and familiarity with pre-commissioning and cold commissioning tests for transformers.
  • Experience managing multiple projects simultaneously, utilizing planning software like MSP and P6 for monitoring and controlling resources and cost-loaded programmes.
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and decision-making skills; a strong team player who can manage customers, contractors, and suppliers effectively.

This full-time position will be based in London, UK, with weekly travel to sites, mainly across England. You will report directly to the Director for Project Management.

If you are a driven and experienced Project Manager with a proven track record in high-voltage transformer projects and a commitment to quality and safety, we encourage you to apply.
