Tribol Braking is a technology led spin-out company from the University of Exeter developing next generation, lightweight braking technology for the automotive friction braking market, with markets including motorsport, commercial, and passenger car applications to name but a few. We have ongoing development programmes with major OEMs and Tier manufacturers across the globe and are currently commercialising our track and enthusiast aftermarket offering in the form of the world’s lightest brake pad, employing high tech composite solutions in place of traditional metals. A successful applicant will therefore be able to enjoy seeing the direct impact of their work on our growing product line.
As a project engineer a successful applicant will become an essential part of our engineering team, working directly with our CTO to ensure we keep our day-to-day projects on track and enabling the successful advancement of the company’s goals. This will require a willingness not just to orchestrate projects of your own, but to also embrace a flexible work plan and adapt to changing development priorities or customer requirements. The work will be a mixture of the highly practical, such as instrumenting and maintaining our test car, and managing on-vehicle test programs, through to the highly theoretical, such as developing a detailed product Life Cycle Analysis to support ongoing OEM interactions.
Key responsibilities will include:
Production of mechanical and mould tool designs using SolidWorks including assemblies and fully tolerance manufacturing production drawings.
Handling and preparing various composite materials.
Running compression moulding operations to produce prototype and development components
Performing characterisation on current and future materials at a coupon level to support design development
Running paper studies on aspects such as product Life Cycle Analyses to support future development work and customer interactions
Orchestrating stand-alone technical projects, such as investigation of an NDT system for testing of production components.
Designing and implementing test fixtures, including - Designing/manufacturing workshop jigs in-house, to support production and development work programmes, Design & manufacture of instrumentation mounting systems for our track test car to enable on-vehicle testing.
Supporting low level in-house production and prototyping runs
The ideal applicant will be able to demonstrate:
Competence/knowledge of general composite design and manufacture.
A basic understanding of manufacturing composite components through a compression moulding process.
Competence with CNC machining programmes and equipment
Competence in 3D CAD (Preferably Solidworks to a CSWA level)
The ability to work independently to administer and deliver projects in a timely manner
The ability to work patiently and professionally under pressure
The ability to manage multiple workstreams as development priorities change
Applicants should possess either: An engineering or materials science degree at a bachelor’s level or above
Demonstrable experience of working with relevant composite systems in
Full UK Driving licence
In addition, applicants will be required to travel on occasion, as part of their employment, both within the UK and internationally (often involving an overnight stay).
In return for the above, Tribol are offering an annual starting salary of £30,000 for this full-time and permanent position. This job will entail a 40-hour working week with core hours between 08:00 to 16:00 with the expectation of some flexibility in working hours as required. Annual holiday allowance will be 30 days a year plus bank holidays.
