Drive Safety Case Strategy Across Major Projects
We are supporting a leading organisation in the nuclear and highly regulated engineering sector as they seek an experienced Principal Safety Case Consultant. This is a senior, high‑impact role offering the opportunity to shape safety case strategy across major national projects, with flexibility to work from multiple UK locations.
Role Overview
As a Principal Safety Case Consultant, you will be a key technical authority, providing leadership across safety case development, regulatory engagement, and multi‑disciplinary project delivery. You will oversee the creation of robust safety documentation, guide integrated engineering teams, and ensure that safety arguments are fully evidenced and aligned with regulatory expectations.
This role is suited to someone who enjoys leading teams, influencing technical strategy, and working across complex, high‑hazard environments.
Key Responsibilities
Provide expert nuclear safety input across the full project lifecycle, supporting design development and delivery. Lead or facilitate HAZID and HAZOP workshops, ensuring strong Hazard Management Strategies are established and maintained. Manage and lead the production of radiological safety assessments and key Safety Reports, including PSRs, PCSRs, and equivalent documentation. Offer senior-level technical leadership on safety case strategy, regulatory compliance, supporting analyses, and associated technical reports. Oversee safety case delivery teams, including managing supply chain contributions and monitoring progress against scope, schedule, and cost. Maintain high-level visibility of safety case strategies across multiple projects, ensuring consistent standards and technical excellence.Essential Experience
The ideal candidate will demonstrate:
Proven experience delivering nuclear safety case outputs as part of multi‑disciplinary engineering teams. Strong understanding of core engineering disciplines and how they contribute to safety case development. Awareness of specialist areas including: Criticality assessment Shielding and dose assessment Environmental assessment Human factors Relevant nuclear legislation Excellent communication skills and confidence engaging with technical specialists and senior stakeholders. Previous experience coaching, mentoring, or leading safety case professionals to build team capability.Qualifications
Degree in Engineering or a Scientific discipline (or equivalent experience). Chartered status preferred, or working toward chartership.Security Clearance
