Principal Civil Infrastructure Engineer – UK International Consultancy

An internationally recognised engineering consultancy is expanding its UK Infrastructure team and is seeking an Principal Civil Infrastructure Engineer to help drive technical excellence and project delivery. Renowned for delivering innovative, sustainable, and high-quality engineering solutions, this consultancy partners with major clients across construction, infrastructure, and development sectors. The Opportunity

As an Principal Engineer, you will play a key leadership role within a dynamic, multi-disciplinary Infrastructure team. You will oversee and guide engineering delivery across the full project lifecycle, from early-stage strategy and concept design through to detailed design, approvals, and construction support.

Key responsibilities include:

Leading civil infrastructure design activities with a focus on best practice, quality, and innovation Oversight of earthworks strategies, masterplanning inputs, and development feasibility assessments Leadership of highway, access, drainage (including SuDS), and utility design packages Managing the development and review of BIM models, CAD deliverables, and BIM Execution Plans Preparing, reviewing, and signing off technical reports, specifications, and design deliverables Supporting project resourcing, financial performance, and client communication Mentoring and developing engineers and technicians within the team

About You

We are particularly interested in motivated candidates who can demonstrate:

A strong technical background in civil infrastructure design, ideally with specialism in highways and/or drainage/SuDS Proficiency in AutoCAD and Civil 3D (MicroDrainage knowledge advantageous) Demonstrable understanding of BIM processes, standards, and digital workflows Proven experience delivering designs with limited supervision and coordinating work across disciplines Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal Confidence engaging with clients, stakeholders, and regulatory bodies Experience mentoring junior team members and supporting technical development

You must hold Chartered Engineer (CEng) status with ICE, CIWEM, or an equivalent professional institution.
