Job Title: Principal Designer / CDM Advisor
Location: London (Hybrid working available)
Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience
Reports To: Senior Health & Safety Advisor

We are working with a leading multidisciplinary consultancy to recruit a Principal Designer / CDM Advisor to support their expanding health and safety team. This is a great opportunity for a health and safety professional with strong CDM experience looking to work on a diverse range of exciting projects across residential, commercial, leisure, and education sectors.

Key Responsibilities:

Act as Principal Designer or CDM Advisor across a range of client projects

Support internal teams with H&S/CDM expertise across the project lifecycle

Prepare Pre-Construction Information and review Construction Phase Plans

Issue F10 notifications and maintain accurate project documentation

Assist designers in completing Designer Risk Assessments and compile Design Risk Registers

Lead the resolution of design-related health and safety issues

Attend design team and project progress meetings

Conduct regular site audits and inspections

Compile and issue Health & Safety Files at project handover

Advise clients and contractors on safe practices during design, construction, and maintenance phases

Requirements & Qualifications:

NEBOSH General/Construction Certificate (additional specialisms such as Fire/Environmental advantageous)

Minimum TechIOSH, with up-to-date CPD (CMIOSH/IIRSM desirable)

APS membership (IMaPS or AaPS preferred)

Minimum 3 years' experience in construction health and safety

Demonstrated experience in a Principal Designer, CDM Advisor or Designer role

Strong knowledge of CDM 2015 Regulations, Approved Documents, ACOPs, and best practice

Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and construction documents

Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills

Confident leading meetings and influencing duty holders

Background in construction or in-depth understanding of traditional and modern building techniques

Experience working on high-risk buildings (HRBs)

Planning & Organisation: Effectively manages workload and priorities across multiple projects

Customer Focus: Builds trust with clients and delivers service excellence

Team Development: Supports and mentors junior colleagues, encouraging growth

Attention to Detail: Delivers accurate, high-quality work and solutions
