Would you like to help plan for the future of the Borough of Great Yarmouth? With issues as diverse as economic regeneration, housing need, coastal change, internationally protected habitats and flood risk, Great Yarmouth is the perfect place for a planner to start or develop their career and gain experience of unique and interesting planning challenges.
Now is an exciting time to join the planning department at Great Yarmouth Borough Council. The Council has recently adopted a Borough-wide Design Code that is already helping to improve the quality of design in the area. A new Local Plan is under preparation and there will be opportunities to contribute to it and help deliver it. Additionally, new modern planning software is on the horizon to streamline processes and enable high-quality customer service.
Initially you will be based in the Development Management team, helping to determine a wide range of interesting planning applications. There will also be opportunities to gain experience in planning policy preparation within the Strategic Planning team.

We welcome applications from graduates in Town and Country Planning or related disciplines (such as Geography) who are interested in becoming professional planners.
- The role is career-graded with opportunities to progress to Planning Officer and Senior Planning Officer levels.
- If you do not yet hold a Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI) accredited postgraduate degree, there will be an opportunity to study for one as part of the role.
