Lancaster Leaf Tobacco Co Inc. is a subsidiary of Universal Corporation, the leading global leaf tobacco supplier. Lancaster Leaf manages Universal’s dark air cured tobacco operations in all relevant traditional dark air-cured origins. Operations in Lancaster, PA. consist of a processing facility, storage facility, and main office which also houses Universal’s dark air cured regional headquarters. The Company also has a cutting/flavoring line in the Dominican Republic. Lancaster Leaf supplies virtually all of the major cigar manufacturers in the U.S. with filler, binder, and wrapper from the U.S. and other origins. In addition to domestic supply, Lancaster exports filler, binder, and wrapper to international cigar manufacturers. Lancaster Leaf contracts directly with farmers in all dark air cured growing regions of the U.S. which include Pennsylvania, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Virginia, Tennessee and Kentucky.
Summary
The Ocean Import/Export Logistic Coordinator at Lancaster Leaf assists with the preparation of export documents (bills of lading, packing lists, commercial invoices, freezing and fumigation certificates, phytosanitary certificates, certificates of ) and the processing of import documents in compliance with customs and government regulations. Shipments are from 25 different origins destined for the US, destined to our sister company in the Dominican Republic or destined to one of 17 other foreign based on the sale/transfer of the tobacco.
Assistant arranges and monitors domestic and international shipments: less than truckload cargo, truckload cargo, air shipments, inland and ocean for reefer containerized shipments, inland and ocean with an outside stop for fumigation for dry containerized shipments. Liaises with freight forwarders, customs brokers and other logistics partners to ensure smooth transportation of goods. Works with Governmental Duty Stations in CT, MA, KY and PA to coordinate USDA inspections.
Works closely with all domestic warehouse locations where receiving and loading takes place during our peak season. Coordinates schedules of up to 6 shipping locations on the same days/times. Track and trace containers that don’t show on time and report back to loading facility.
Assistant is responsible for overseeing the filing of consumption entries by nominated customs broker, ensuring that LLT imports under the proper HTSUS subheadings, keeping track of necessary paperwork for Actual use entries, TRQ (tariff rate quota), correct duties are assessed and paid, free trade agreement entries (AGOA, GSP, GSP+, CAFTA-DR, USMCA), exports and miscellaneous customs-related tasks. Assistant is responsible for ISF’s (Import security filings) to be provided to our broker in a timely manner for all US Imports.
Other tasks:
Quarterly reporting for CDP.
Resolves any issues that arise during transit.
Assists SOX Compliance Team with testing controls, requesting and submitting samples via Workiva.
What we are looking for with more specifics regarding Ocean Import and Exporting:
Booking and Coordination:
Arranging cargo space with shipping lines, and coordinating with trucking companies, warehouses, and agents.
Documentation:
Preparing and processing all necessary export documentation, Bills of Lading, packing lists, arranging outside fumigation, coordinating USDA inspections.
Communication and Customer Service:
Maintaining clear and timely communication with clients, overseas agents, and other stakeholders, providing updates on shipment status and resolving any issues or discrepancies.
Compliance:
Ensuring all export activities comply with company policies, industry standards, and government regulations.
Tracking and Tracing:
Monitoring the progress of shipments, tracking their movement from to destination, and providing regular updates to relevant parties.
Data Entry and Record Keeping:
Maintaining accurate records of all export activities, including shipment details, documentation, and communication logs.
Problem Solving:
Identifying and resolving any issues or discrepancies related to export shipments, such as delays, customs issues, or documentation errors.
Minimum Requirements
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent years of experience
International Shipping Experience. Knowledge of INCOTERMS and how to use the terms correctly.
