The Catholic Safeguarding Standards Agency (CSSA) is seeking a Non-Executive Director committed to the ongoing development of the independent safeguarding inspectorate of the Catholic church in England and Wales. The successful candidate will demonstrate a deep understanding and experience of working as part of a committed and dynamic Board. We particularly seek candidates who can demonstrate significant risk management, audit and/or inspection/regulatory leadership experience to deliver effective governance and strategic direction to the Agency.
This is an important role ensuring that the voice and experience of survivors is the learning that permeates every aspect of CSSA policy, practice and culture. We welcome applications with those with lived experience of Catholic church-related abuse. The Trustee role will deliver:
Leadership – As an active member of the Board of Directors, you will be committed to being fully engaged in the work of the Agency and take collective ownership and responsibility for developing and delivering the strategic objectives, effective governance and inspectorate role of the CSSA. You will demonstrate the knowledge and capability necessary to ensure strategic direction is characterised by consistency, focus and collaborative behaviour.
Governance- contributing to meetings effectively and efficiently, bringing impartiality and objectivity to the decision-making process and help ensure that the CSSA operates within a robust budget framework characterised by full and timely financial transparency and information disclosure.
Collaborative working - engaging effectively and constructively with the Chief Executive Officer to ensure s/he is held to account appropriately supported, and that relationships with colleagues are based on mutual respect, building trust and regular, open, and transparent communication.
Representation – acting as an ambassador for the CSSA nationally, committed to working with survivors to ensure that they increasingly feel their voice is heard in the Board’s work. To contribute to ensuring that the CSSA is appropriately and effectively engaged as an independent inspectorate with leaders of the Catholic Church in England and Wales, both in Diocese and Religious Life Groups.
Remuneration £13,000 for flexible 2 days per month commitment for a 3-year term.
Locations: 4-6 Board meetings per year are held on-line or at a centrally agreed location
