About Us

 

The Northern Lighthouse Board is the General Lighthouse Authority (GLA) for Scotland and the Isle of Man, responsible for the superintendence and management of all lighthouses, buoys and beacons within those waters. We have provided this vital safety service to mariners since 1786.

The Role – Overview

 

As Navigation Manager you will develop a significant relevant stakeholder group and oversee and manage the navigational requirements and superintendence function for all Aids to Navigation (AtoN) in Scottish and Manx waters to ensure they are provided in compliance with International standards.

 

Managing a team of four Navigation professionals and as a member of the Senior Management team you will contribute to the strategy and plan of the NLB to ensure the provision of a suitable mix of Aids to Navigation. You will collaborate and at times lead GLA activities to ensure the development of joint strategies and represent NLB at IALA, RIN and with MCA, Scottish Government and UKHO providing professional advice and reporting on complex marine developments in Scottish waters and Safety of Navigation aspects of AtoN provision.

Qualifications/ Experience Required

 

•          Master Mariner or equivalent e.g RNCQ with broad knowledge and practical experience of Scottish waters

•          An effective empathetic leader with experience of leading teams.

•          Knowledge of Navigation Systems, technology and risk tools.

•          Strong reasoning skills and ability to make structured and persuasive written and verbal argument.

•          Confident and proficient at presentation skills and public speaking appropriate to dealing with international/ Government and other stakeholder audience. xbpsjku
