Mechanical Systems Engineer
Location : Bristol, Bolton, or Stevenage, UK – Hybrid (flexible working arrangements)
Salary : £45,000 - £60,000 depending on experience

A leading defence technology organisation is seeking a Mechanical Systems Engineer to join their Complex Weapons sector, contributing to the development, certification, and delivery of advanced weapon systems. This role offers the chance to work on projects spanning Laser Weapons, Air Defence Missiles, Naval Strike, and Deep Strike, with opportunities for professional growth and cross-disciplinary collaboration.
Key responsibilities:
• Manage the technical progression and status of assigned work packages.
• Specify clear and accurate equipment requirements to internal or external design teams.
• Collaborate with and international Design Authorities to define solutions and perform technical trade-offs.
• Ensure compliance with relevant commercial, military, and safety standards.
• Develop verification and validation strategies for mechanical, electrical, software, and transversal properties.
• Prepare certification evidence for weapon systems and subsystems for trials or delivery.
• Facilitate the exchange of technical information with the supply chain and procurement teams.
Skills and experience required:
• Strong understanding of engineering design processes and their practical application.
• Experience with high-integrity hardware, complex mechanical design, networking technologies, or custom electronics.
• Proven ability to manage a small team or relevant team leadership experience.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with cross-functional and international teams.
