The Company This opportunity is with a well regarded contractor delivering complex mechanical, electrical and process projects across the water and wastewater sector in Ireland. Their work includes major upgrades to treatment plants, critical utility infrastructure, commissioning programmes, and high value environmental engineering projects that improve essential public services.
They have built a strong name for delivering technically demanding projects to a high standard, with a real focus on safety, quality, programme delivery, and collaboration on site. With a growing pipeline of wastewater treatment and water infrastructure work in the North East, they are now looking to appoint an experienced Mechanical Project Manager to take ownership of a key live project.
The Role Mechanical Project Manager This is a senior site based role focused on managing and coordinating the design, construction, commissioning, and handover of mechanical, electrical, and process upgrade works at a wastewater treatment facility. You will lead site teams, drive programme performance, and ensure all works are delivered safely, efficiently, and in line with client and contractual requirements.
The successful Mechanical Project Manager will play a central role in programme planning, subcontractor coordination, engineering oversight, commissioning activities, stakeholder communication, and final project closeout. This role will suit someone with strong mechanical engineering or environmental engineering experience who enjoys working in a fast paced project environment and can bring structure, leadership, and technical confidence to a live wastewater treatment project.
Key Responsibilities

Lead, supervise, and coordinate engineers, safety personnel, and M&E installation teams on site
\n
Manage the delivery of mechanical, electrical, and process upgrade works from construction through to commissioning and final handover
\n
Represent the project at client meetings and contribute to project coordination meetings, including records and follow up actions
\n
Oversee PSDP and PSCS duties and ensure full compliance across all site activities
\n
Promote a strong HSQE culture built around communication, coordination, cooperation, and collaboration
\n
Manage all site documentation including audits, reports, method statements, signage, and subcontractor records
\n
Drive construction planning, sequencing, and short term and long term scheduling
\n
Coordinate procurement and expediting of plant, materials, and equipment to support programme delivery
\n
Review project costs and contribute to commercial reporting and performance tracking
\n
Assess construction methods, site logistics, and installation approaches to improve productivity and quality
\n
Prepare progress reports and technical reports for both client teams and internal stakeholders
\n
Plan and oversee all installation activities from contract award through to completion, testing, commissioning, validation, and handover
\n
Manage performance in line with contractual KPIs and project milestones
\n
Maintain positive day to day communication with the Employer’s Representative and Engineer team on site
\n
Coordinate handover documentation, commissioning records, testing certification, and process proving documentation
\n
Ensure environmental and ecology requirements are understood and incorporated into project delivery
\n
Update weekly and monthly programmes and provide clear reporting on progress, risks, and upcoming activities
\n
Support project closeout and the handover of the completed safety file
\n
About You
\n
Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related engineering discipline
\n
Minimum of 5 years’ experience in mechanical project management, environmental engineering, or M&E project delivery
\n
Strong background in water treatment, wastewater treatment, utilities, process engineering, or industrial construction is highly desirable
\n
Experience coordinating site teams, subcontractors, commissioning activities, and handover processes
\n
Strong understanding of health and safety, documentation control, project planning, and on site compliance
\n
Comfortable managing client interaction, site meetings, reporting, and technical coordination
\n
Good working knowledge of MS Office and project planning software
\n
Strong engineering judgement with solid analytical and problem solving ability
\n
Collaborative approach with the confidence to lead teams and drive performance on site
\n
Motivated, organised, and capable of delivering to tight deadlines in a live project environment
\n
Full EU or Irish driving licence
\n
