Position Overview
An established M&E contractor with decades of experience delivering complex, multi-sector projects is seeking a Mechanical Estimator to join its growing Projects Division. This is a key commercial role responsible for assessing and pricing mechanical tenders across design-and-build and small works packages.
The ideal candidate will possess strong technical knowledge in building services (particularly HVAC/mechanical systems), with a keen eye for detail, commercial awareness, and experience in producing accurate, competitive estimates.
Key Responsibilities
Evaluate client enquiries and conduct site surveys where required.
Prepare mechanical cost estimates for large-scale and smaller bespoke projects.
Collaborate with clients, consultants, and internal teams throughout the tender process.
Engage with the supply chain to obtain competitive pricing from subcontractors and suppliers.
Attend pre-construction meetings, briefings, and interviews to support bid submissions.
Monitor tender progress and maintain accurate records on active opportunities.
Contribute to continuous improvement of estimating procedures and systems.
Provide input to procurement and operations teams where technical knowledge is beneficial.
Essential Requirements
Proven experience in a mechanical estimating role, ideally within the building services or construction industry.
Strong background in mechanical systems design or installation.
Familiarity with sectors such as healthcare, education, commercial, hospitality, or pharmaceuticals.
Sound understanding of mechanical drawings, specifications, and calculations.
Ability to read and interpret tender documentation and design information.
Proficient in MS Office and estimating tools (experience with SimPro is advantageous).
Full UK Driving Licence.
Willingness to undergo DBS checks as required.
Desirable Qualifications & Experience
Mechanical or electrical engineering qualifications.
BREEAM or other sustainability-focused certifications.
Working knowledge of CAD software and mechanical design packages.
Exposure to contract and project management responsibilities.
