Marketing and Communications Lead

This role is home-based. The organisation's head office is in
Lancaster , and occasional travel will be required to this location and elsewhere within Lancashire. Candidates must live within Lancashire. What's in it for you? You do not need prior technical knowledge of energy efficiency or retrofit — curiosity and a willingness to learn are far more important. The ideal candidate will care deeply about social impact, ethical practice, and climate or energy issues, and will be motivated by helping people rather than selling products. Essential skills, experience, and attributes include: Proven experience in marketing, communications, PR, or a related field (around 2–5 years preferred) Strong writing, editing, and storytelling abilities Experience using digital platforms, social media, and analytics Strategic thinking combined with a hands-on approach Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a small team Comfort with ambiguity, growth, and evolving priorities A flexible, proactive mindset and willingness to pitch in beyond a narrow job description What will your role look like? Reporting to the Director, the Marketing and Communications Lead will strengthen and professionalise the organisation's marketing activity, moving it from reactive, ad-hoc activity to planned, strategic campaigns. The initial months will focus on onboarding, building strong relationships across the team, and developing a deep understanding of services, partnerships, and organisational values. Key responsibilities include: Developing and delivering marketing and communications plans aligned to organisational priorities Moving marketing activity from reactive to planned, campaign-based delivery Leading campaign planning and execution for new service launches and existing services Supporting the growth of an ethical, scalable B2C service for households able to self-fund home energy improvements Managing and developing social media channels, particularly Facebook Creating clear, compelling content across multiple channels, including websites, social media, and printed materials Taking content ownership for two websites (organisation-wide and service-specific) Developing clear audience targeting and consistent messaging across multiple brands Generating and nurturing leads, with sales handled by other staff Capturing and communicating impact through case studies, outcomes, and stories Supporting funding, partnership, and stakeholder communications through clear messaging Coordinating with external suppliers such as web designers and graphic designers Working closely with directors, managers, councils, utilities, and charity partners Representing the organisation at events, meetings, and community engagement activities Balancing desk-based strategy and planning with field-based work as appropriate Working creatively within very limited paid advertising budgets Occasional travel across Lancashire and some evening or weekend event work (with time off in lieu) What's next?
