Manufacturing Engineer
to drive continuous improvement and sustainable, safe change across our manufacturing operations. In this hands-on role, youll identify and deliver innovative process enhancements, optimise flow and layout designs, and support the effective introduction of new technologies and product lines. Your expertise will ensure seamless day-to-day operations
encompassing people, processes, products, and machinery
while developing opportunities to improve efficiency, quality, safety, and cost performance. This role involves a
50/50 split between cleanroom and non-cleanroom environments . Job Purpose: Deliver continuous improvement and sustainable, safe change to the manufacturing practices within the business. This will include identifying and delivering innovative process changes as well as flow and layout design to facilitate effective and efficient introduction of new technologies and product lines. Your expertise will ensure that operations run smoothly within the site including people, products, processes, and machinery operations. You will work to develop and identify opportunities to improve manufacturing capability by analysing and recommending appropriate projects aligned with efficiency, cost reductions, quality, and safety measures as well as ensuring documentation and work instructions are kept up to date. This role is a 50/50 split of working inside and outside of a cleanroom. Key Areas of Responsibility: ?Provide manufacturing engineering support to the manufacturing operational team when required. ?Drive continuous improvement activities, focusing on quality, cycle times, cost reduction, and process enhancement through lean techniques and value engineering. ?Create and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and technical specifications for manufacturing equipment. ?Implement a robust training process, including procedures, documentation, and traceability to develop and maintain workforce competences within the allocated manufacturing cells. ?Establish and maintain appropriate metrics to demonstrate the effectiveness of the Manufacturing process in the allocated cells. ?Design, prove, implement, and maintain Cell manufacturing system layout. ?Assist in analysing, recommending, and implementing the most effective manufacturing engineering solutions that enable the successful control of variation and process capability, cost reduction innovations, continuous improvement projects and capital Equipment expenditure to meet the companys targets. ?Make use of in-depth data gathering and analysis, structured problem solving and continuous improvement techniques (including Six Sigma) to investigate and optimise a variety of processes. ?Work closely with the engineering and NPI operations departments to ensure the quality and manufacturability of design (DFx) meets requirements and enables successful completion of NPI projects. ?Carry out risk assessments on new or changed manufacturing equipment, processes or procedures. ?Report on project status and budgetary issues to the management team as required. ?Be a leader of change; defining, developing, and implementing improvement projects to meet agreed manufacturing objectives. ?Take ownership and accountability for resolving or supporting any non-conformities impacting the manufacturing process of the allocated cells, whether internal or external. Required Experience: Essential: ?A minimum of 5 years experience in a manufacturing engineering role with exposure to lean manufacturing including value stream mapping, structured problem solving (A3, 8D, DMAIC), Six Sigma, SPC and Advanced Product Quality Planning. ?Demonstrable ability to gather and analyse data regarding design and manufacturing capability. ?Experience of writing standard works/work instructions/Standard Operating Procedures and plotting a work/process flow. ?Good IT skills
particularly in Excel. ?In depth knowledge of the management of health and safety at work ?5S implementation Preferable: ?Experience in a cleanroom environment ?Experience in fine mechanical assembly ?Experience of TPM ?Six Sigma green belt ?Implementation of takt continuous process flow ?Experience of OEE ?Experience of Capacity planning ?Experience of Gage R&R ?Experience in writing SQL queries ?Optical fibre handling experience including fusion processes (splicing) Formal Qualifications: Degree qualified in an appropriate engineering discipline, or demonstrably equivalent through experience and alternative technical qualifications. Capable of structured problem solving with a flash of innovation when required.
