Electrical or Mechanical Maintenance Engineer
Initial 3–6-month contract + Likely extensions
Location: Bolton
Rate: Up to £32.00p/h DOE (Limited – Outside IR35 / PAYE / Umbrella)
Shifts: Panama Days and Nights
High Speed / Machinery / Automation
We are currently recruiting an Electrical Maintenance Engineer on a contract basis for a leading client based in the Northwest. This well-established company is renowned for its innovation in the design and production of secure documents, including currency and other high-security items.
Responsibilities for the Maintenance Engineer role include:
Managing reactive breakdowns and Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) to ensure plant efficiency
Working on critical plant machinery including presses, conveyors, packaging machines, and sorting systems
Fault finding, troubleshooting, and repair of electrical systems, including PLCs, drives, motors, and control panels
Ensuring compliance with safety standards in a high-volume industrial production environment
Logging and reporting necessary maintenance and operational data in accordance with internal processes
Contributing to continuous improvement initiatives and maintaining plant performance
Key skills and attributes required:
Time-served electrical engineering apprenticeship or equivalent qualification
Strong experience with electrical systems, including PLC fault finding, drives, motors, and automation systems
Experience in an industrial manufacturing environment
Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and wiring diagrams
Proactive, self-driven, and able to work independently with minimal supervision
Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail with a focus on maintenance improvements
