Position Overview

12 month Locum Consultant Cardiothoracic Radiologist at Barts Health NHS Trust to support the new Community Diagnostic Centre (CDC) for North‑East London, supporting research, education and training for the radiographic team.

Location & Working Pattern

The role will be based predominantly at St Bartholomew’s Hospital (the site of the Barts Heart and Thorax centres) and Mile End Hospital, with commitments also at the Royal London Hospital.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Continuing responsibility for the care of patients in his/her charge, including all administrative duties associated with patient care.
  2. Helping in development and organisation of the services in his/her charge in line with the Trust’s business plans; liaison and communication with the General Manager and Clinical Directors for Imaging at Barts Health NHS Trust.
  3. Development of his/her own interests and specialties within the Imaging service, including active participation in audit programmes.
  4. Corporate and individual responsibility for the professional management of doctors in training.

Additional Responsibilities

  1. Report cross‑sectional images performed on the new NAEOTOM Alpha CT scanner at the CDC.
  2. Contribute to the high‑quality Consultant‑led diagnostic imaging service at Barts and the Royal London Hospitals.
  3. Support the need for an ILS‑trained radiologist at the CDC covering contrast administration in case of a contrast reaction.
  4. Contribute to the specialist MDTs on a roster with subspecialist colleagues.
  5. Join the general on‑call service 1 in 20 with SPR cover on site.
  6. Always adhere to the appropriate clinical and quality standards.
  7. Liaise effectively and on a timely basis with colleagues, general practitioners’ community services, and all healthcare agencies.
  8. Maintain and promote team and multidisciplinary work.
  9. Participate fully in the management of the Departments and liaise closely with the respective clinical and academic group director and General Manager.
