Highways Maintenance Operative
Abatec is currently recruiting for Traffic Management Operatives and Highways Maintenance Operatives on behalf of a leading road maintenance provider based in the Gloucester area. This is a full-time, hands-on role offering long-term opportunities, full training, and clear progression prospects.
The role would suit candidates with previous experience in groundworks, construction, landscaping, or tree surgery, as many of the skills gained in these environments are highly transferable.
If you enjoy working outdoors, being part of a small team, and taking on varied tasks across different projects, this role could be a great fit. No two days are the same.

What youll be doing:
Carrying out reactive roadways maintenance to include pothole repairs, tarmacking, landscaping, gully cleaning, hedge cutting, kerb maintenance amongst other duties
Setting out, establishing, maintaining, and removing traffic management sites in compliance with Health & Safety and industry regulations
Conducting thorough risk assessments to ensure operational safety and compliance
Safely loading vehicles with required traffic management equipment, adhering to health and safety protocols
Performing daily vehicle inspections to maintain road worthiness and promptly reporting any defects
Reporting all near-miss incidents in accordance with company policy
Supporting depot operations by organising and returning equipment to designated areas, including recharging and correctly storing batteries
Gritting roads during winter and responding to emergency works
Using various tools and materials, loading/unloading equipment
Ensuring health & safety compliance for yourself, your team, and the public

What were looking for:
Full UK driving licence (essential)
Experience in highways, construction, or outdoor work
Ability to follow safety procedures and work as part of a team
CSCS card and Street Works tickets (beneficial but not essential)

Desirable Qualifications / Skills:
Traffic Management qualifications (T1 & T2)
Valid Streetworks (NRSWA) qualification
Previous experience working within traffic management or highway maintenance environments.
