My client is a small but fast-growing company working on exciting high voltage infrastructure projects across the UK. As part of their continued growth, they’re looking for a High Voltage Commissioning Engineer to join their close-knit, supportive team.
About the Role:
* As a High Voltage Commissioning Engineer, you will play a critical role in the testing and commissioning of electrical systems from LV up to 400kV. You will work on a range of grid connections, substations, renewable energy projects, and industrial installations.
Responsibilities include:
* Preparation and execution of commissioning plans and procedures
* Cold & Hot commissioning of HV equipment including transformers, switchgear, protection relays, and SCADA systems
* Fault finding and diagnostics
* Site documentation and reporting
* Liaising with clients, DNOs, ICPs, and project managers
Essential Qualifications & Certifications:
* HNC/HND or Degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline
* Senior Authorised Person (SAP) or demonstrable experience working under an SAP on HV networks
* G99/G59 testing and commissioning knowledge
* Grid Person/BESC certification (or willingness to obtain)
* ECS/CSCS Card
* 18th Edition IET Wiring Regulations (BS7671) (desirable)
* First Aid at Work & Manual Handling (current or valid)
Required Experience & Expertise:
* Minimum 3+ years’ hands-on experience in high voltage commissioning (LV–400kV)
* Experience working on DNO, ICP, IDNO, or private HV networks
* Familiarity with protection relay configuration and secondary injection testing (e.g. Omicron, Megger)
* Sound knowledge of commissioning procedures, electrical safety regulations, and risk assessment
* Ability to interpret technical drawings and schematics
* Strong documentation, reporting, and communication skills
* Comfortable working independently and as part of a team, with a solution-driven approach
