What's involved with this role: To deliver efficient and safe waste collection and transportation across the city, operating specialist HGV Class 1 and 2 vehicles (up to 3.5 tonnes). Ensuring compliance with environmental legislation, driver licensing requirements, health and safety standards, and providing excellent customer service. You will supervise crew when required, complete necessary checks and documentation, and contribute to a cleaner, greener city. Qualifications: Full Category C (or C+E) HGV Driving Licence and valid Driver CPC qualification Functional Skills English and Maths Level 2 or equivalent Valid digital tachograph card WAMITAB Level 2 (or working towards) IOSH Working Safely (or working towards) Skills & Experience required: Experience driving HGV vehicles in operational and confined spaces Understanding of health and safety regulations, including LOLER Proven ability to work independently, solve problems and manage unplanned events Good communication and customer service skills with frontline experience Ability to supervise, motivate and mentor colleagues Physical fitness to perform demanding manual tasks Key Responsibilities: Drive and operate HGV waste vehicles safely and efficiently across scheduled routes Conduct daily vehicle safety and defect checks, maintain vehicle cleanliness Ensure compliance with Operator Licence, driver hours, tachograph and CPC regulations Collect, transport and dispose of waste streams in line with legal and council requirements Supervise, motivate and provide on-the-job training to crew members when required Complete accurate recording of data, statutory waste transfer documentation, and incident reporting Maintain health, safety and welfare standards for crew, public, and yourself Respond to unplanned events to avoid service disruption, escalating issues as needed Ensure clean, tidy working environment post-collection Assist with lifting, moving bins, and other physical duties as required Please quote the Job Title & Vacancy Reference No. in your application, or we will be unable to match your CV to the role being applied for.
