Job Description
Health & Safety Advisor – Summary Role Description
Job Purpose
The Health & Safety Advisor supports the business in achieving high standards of health, safety and welfare across residential construction sites. The role provides competent advice, monitors compliance with UK legislation and company standards, and promotes a positive, proactive safety culture.
Key Responsibilities
Health & Safety Compliance
Provide competent advice to directors, managers, employees and subcontractors in line with UK legislation, including the Health & Safety at Work Act and CDM 2015
Support the implementation and maintenance of health and safety policies, procedures and management systems
Ensure compliance with HSE requirements, ACOPs and industry best practice
Site Monitoring & Risk Management
Undertake regular site inspections and audits
Identify hazards and unsafe practices, recommending practical control measures
Review RAMS, construction phase plans and COSHH assessments
Support management of high-risk activities including work at height, lifting operations, excavations, temporary works and plant
Incident & Performance Management
Support accident, incident and near-miss investigations, including RIDDOR where required
Identify root causes and ensure corrective actions are implemented and closed out
Produce clear inspection reports and contribute to health & safety KPI reporting
Training, Engagement & Culture
Deliver toolbox talks, briefings and safety awareness sessions
Promote positive behavioural safety and continuous improvement
Support subcontractor assessment, inductions and pre-start meetings
Skills & Competencies
Technical
Strong knowledge of UK health & safety legislation, particularly CDM 2015
Experience within residential construction environments
Competent in risk assessment, auditing and incident investigation
Personal & Behavioural
Confident communicator able to influence at all levels
Professional and assertive when challenging unsafe behaviours
Organised, detail-focused and resilient in a multi-site role
Proactive, solution-focused and commercially aware
Qualifications & Professional Requirements
Essential: NEBOSH Certificate in Construction Health & Safety
Desirable: NEBOSH Diploma or NVQ Level 6 in Occupational Health & Safety
Professional Membership: TechIOSH (CertIOSH desirable)

Temporary Works (Coordinator/Supervisor)
Accident Investigation
Scaffold Awareness
Environmental / Sustainability Awareness
First Aid / Mental Health First Aid
Full UK driving licence
DBS check (company requirement)
Ongoing CPD through IOSH or equivalent
