Head of Syndicate Capital

Join to apply for the Head of Syndicate Capital role at Enstar Group

Reporting to the Group Head of Modelling, the Head of Syndicate Capital is responsible for delivering Capital modelling, with a focus on the Enstar Lloyd’s Syndicate 2008.

What you will be doing:

  • The Modelling function is fundamental for Enstar. Its deliverables influence M&A appetite, investment composition, regulatory and economic capital requirements. Working with the Group Head of Modelling your primary role will be to lead the Lloyd’s capital submissions and co‑ordinate the use and development of the Igloo Capital Model to create high quality output that is communicated effectively to Lloyd's, the Syndicate board, and senior management.
  • You will work collaboratively with multi‑disciplinary teams to deliver transactions and business transformations, and will be expected to lead your own projects supporting Enstar’s wider modelling. Examples include enhancing our reserve risk modelling, embedding use of economic scenario generators, developing the group capital model, and enhancing pricing and planning models.
  • You will also help with hiring, managing and developing junior members of the team.
  • Enstar is a ‘hands‑on’ organisation and the role will be approximately split evenly between individual technical work and leading others. This role will appeal to an individual with large amounts of initiative, comfortable working in a fast‑changing environment with a passion for making capital models commercially valuable.

Key Accountabilities

  • Assume the Key Function Holder for Capital for the syndicate and the key point of contact for Lloyd’s.
  • Lead the delivery of Lloyd’s capital submissions. These are the standard annual submissions as well as those resulting from M&A transactions. Submissions must demonstrate rigorous project management, parameterisation, review, communication, documentation and approvals.
  • Lead all other relevant regulatory submissions to Lloyd’s (including PRA IMO/RDS/Standard Formula)
  • Lead the parameterisation of reserve risk for the syndicate and group
  • Ensure relevant Lloyd's capital modelling principles and expected maturity standards are maintained.
  • Collaborate with the Risk Function to validate, inform risk appetite, ORSA and stress & scenario testing.
  • Investigate, explain, and report on model results to internal committees and boards, including group.
  • Supporting the calculations of non-Lloyd’s entities on Standard Formula/ BSCR as required.
  • To meet the above:
  • Develop and maintain Enstar's Igloo Capital Model for Lloyd’s and associated SQL database
  • Parameterise inputs, with a focus on reserve risk, and review/validate output for appropriateness.
  • Design and develop management information.
  • Deliver wider modelling solutions
  • Assist with the Enstar group capital model (also built in the Igloo Capital Model)
  • Integrate capital modelling with planning and pricing models
  • Work with the investments and risk teams to embed modelling into strategic asset allocation
  • Ad hoc model uses as requested by the business and seek opportunities for new model uses.
  • At Enstar we are always looking to make things better, to free ourselves up to grow and take on new challenges:
  • People: delegate and coach. We are seeking a candidate who embraces delegation and coaching: allowing team members to achieve their full potential and to take risks, whilst providing appropriate support.
  • Processes: automate and simplify. We are looking for an individual who can lead optimization of repeat processes for all our deliverables. We prefer simpler solutions and models to more complex ones.

What you will bring:

  • 7+ years of capital modelling experience, which can be from a consultancy or other arrangements.
  • Experience of reserving and reserve risk parameterisation, preferably of soft‑market casualty classes and the ability to create a compelling narrative for the analysis
  • Proven experience with Lloyd's capital submissions.
