Are you a senior events professional who’s passionate about developing people and improving performance across the industry?
TEMBO is looking for a commercially minded, industry-savvy leader to take our training and consultancy division to the next level.
This is not a traditional L&D role — we’re not looking for a corporate trainer.
We’re looking for someone who understands the events world inside out and wants to shape how organisers upskill their teams, develop new talent, and deliver better events.
What the role involves:
- Leading and growing our training and consultancy service line — from product design to delivery and business development.
- Shaping training programmes for event producers, marketers, commercial teams, and senior leaders.
- Working directly with Tier 1 organisers and media companies across the exhibitions and conferences space.
- Developing bespoke consultancy packages for clients needing strategic input, skills development, or new team structures.
- Managing and expanding a network of freelance trainers and facilitators.
- Creating measurable impact for our clients — and building a reputation for best-in-class training and advisory work in the events space.
- Have deep experience in the events industry — ideally across content, commercial or ops roles.
- Know how organisers work, what success looks like, and what skills make teams fly.
- Are commercially sharp: you understand how to package and sell services that deliver value.
- Are excited by the idea of building something — not just delivering someone else’s plan.
- Enjoy leading client conversations and can flex between strategic thinking and hands-on delivery.
- Experience designing or delivering training (internal or external)
- A background in consultancy, advisory, or coaching
- Experience managing freelancers or contractors
- A point of view on where the events industry is heading and how we can help it evolve
At TEMBO, we are passionate about delivering exceptional marketing, content, training and consultancy services grounded in our core values: prioritising people, embracing adaptability, pursuing knowledge, fostering collaboration, and striving for excellence.
Role Summary: Head of Event Strategy & Learning
As TEMBO’s Head of Event Strategy & Learning, you will lead a strategically important and fast-developing area of the business. You will be responsible for defining our consultancy and training offer, engaging senior stakeholders, and delivering meaningful, commercial solutions that help our clients grow.
This role blends business development, consulting, programme design and delivery. You will scope strategic projects, write compelling proposals, and lead delivery—either yourself or via our growing network of trainers and consultants. You will also shape our portfolio of training products and consultancy frameworks, ensuring they are scalable, impactful, and aligned to market needs.
Working closely with the CEO, you will contribute to TEMBO’s strategic vision, build strong client relationships, and help embed best practices across the business. As part of the Senior Leadership Team, you will support TEMBO’s growth ambitions, uphold our values, and lead with credibility and warmth.
Team Structure
As part of the Senior Management Team, the Head of Event Strategy & Learning reports to the CEO and works closely with the Office Manager (admin support), Financial Controller (budgeting & finance oversight), and the Business Development Manager.
Key Responsibilities
Client Engagement & Growth
- Lead strategic conversations with senior leaders across event organisers and media businesses
- Scope and write compelling proposals for training and consultancy projects
- Proactively identify and convert new business opportunities across TEMBO’s network
- Represent TEMBO at industry events and in external communications (e.g., LinkedIn)
- Build and maintain strong relationships with key clients and prospects
- Collaborate with the business development team to shape and close opportunities
- Deliver a mix of consulting and training projects personally
- Oversee delivery by trusted freelance partners (trainers, facilitators, strategists)
- Design and facilitate workshops, planning sessions and capability reviews
- Ensure client outcomes are met through structured delivery, reporting and follow-up
- Create and manage project plans, budgets and resource allocation
- Build out scalable training offers (in-house, open courses, online learning)
- Develop consultancy frameworks and diagnostic tools
- Create support materials and delivery templates to ensure consistency and quality
- Continuously gather feedback to refine service offerings
- Have Industry Expertise: Proven experience in consulting, training or leadership within the events industry
- Be Commercial: Able to articulate value, price services, and drive revenue and margin
- Be Credible & Personable: Confident with senior stakeholders, warm with clients and teams
- Be Organised & Strategic: Skilled at balancing delivery with business development and service design
- Be Collaborative: Works well across teams and leads with clarity and generosity
- Proven experience in consultancy and/or training leadership
- Strong track record in business development and proposal writing
- Experience working with senior-level stakeholders (e.g., C-suite)
- Confident facilitator with excellent communication and presentation skills
- Understanding of the events and media landscape preferred
- Annual Leave: 20 days + bank holidays (with tenure-based increases)
- Additional Perks: Birthday leave, company events, and social gatherings (e.g., Summer Summit, Christmas Party)
- Wellbeing Support: 2 volunteering days per year, gym membership, and personalised training & development plan
- Health Benefits: Medical & dental coverage (after two years with TEMBO)
