* Lead and develop a high-performing, multi-disciplinary engineering team (mechanical, structural, electrical, and controls), fostering a culture of quality and continuous improvement.
* Implement systems engineering principles, managing requirements, compliance, safety cases, and design substantiation.
* Lead and assure risk assessments, along with design and safety case substantiation.
* Ensure an appropriate balance of safety, compliance, and cost.
* Manage project scope, considering technical, commercial, and schedule implications.
* Oversee the deployment of engineering strategy, governance, and assurance, aligning with internal policies and external regulations.
* Define and implement engineering best practices across all stages, from concept to through-life support.
* Guarantee designs and technical decisions meet the highest standards for safety, performance, and compliance.
Essential Requirements for the Head of Engineering role
* Degree-qualified in Mechanical, Structural, Electrical, or a related engineering field.
* Chartered Engineer (CEng) status or a clear path to achieving it.
* Proven leadership in a senior engineering or head-of-function role within high-integrity or safety-critical sectors.
* Deep knowledge of engineering governance, compliance standards (e.g., BS, ISO, EN), and design assurance.
* Experience managing multi-disciplinary teams and delivering complex engineered solutions on time and within budget.
* Strong commercial awareness, capable of balancing technical excellence with business objectives.
Desirable Requirements for the Head of Engineering
* Highly desirable: Hands-on experience with mechanical systems design, including structural elements, actuation, controls integration, and installation.
* Familiarity with engineering tools, methods, and document control systems.
