Head of Engineering | Salary £80,000

Design & Manufacturing | Capital Equipment | Somerset

We are working with a highly respected UK-based engineering design and manufacturing business that supplies specialist capital equipment to customers worldwide. Due to long-term succession planning, they are seeking to appoint a Head of Engineering to join their senior management team at an exciting stage of growth.

This is a strategic leadership role with a clear development path toward Engineering Director. The successful candidate will lead a multi-disciplinary engineering function, ensuring that all machinery is designed and delivered to the highest standards of safety, compliance and performance, while also driving innovation and future product development.

You will play a central role in shaping the company’s long-term engineering strategy, supporting your team day-to-day and building a strong culture of safety, accountability and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and develop a multi-skilled engineering team across design, delivery and support functions.
• Drive the introduction of new and advanced technologies to improve cost, safety, performance and manufacturability.
• Oversee the design, improvement and ongoing development of machinery and platforms.
• Manage the customer-facing engineering activities, including spares, service, installation and commissioning support.
• Ensure all designs comply with CE, UL and UKCA regulations and relevant machinery safety standards.
• Own the engineering compliance framework, including risk assessments, technical files and design FMEA.

Candidate Requirements

• Degree-qualified in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
• Strong background in an OEM design and manufacturing environment (capital equipment or machinery).
• Experience delivering capital projects to UK and international customers.
• Senior engineering leadership experience (e.g. Engineering Manager, Technical Manager, Lead Engineer).
• Commercially aware, safety-driven and capable of leading teams through change and growth.
