About the role
At Balfour Beatty, we shape the future of infrastructure. Our Regional Civils team is delivering some of the region’s most complex and impactful projects—and we’re looking for a Head of Design & Engineering in Warrington to play a pivotal role in that journey.
This is a senior leadership position responsible for driving excellence in engineering, design strategy, and technical delivery across major projects and the wider business unit. As Design Management Technical Lead, you will lead all commercial, design, engineering, and technical activity within the North West region, ensuring high-quality, compliant, and innovative solutions are delivered safely, on time, and within budget.
Responsibilities
Lead the development and implementation of design strategy across the business unit and major complex projects
Act as a key decision-maker in the selection and management of design partners
Drive best practice by collaborating across geographical areas, sharing expertise and resources
Shape and continuously improve design management processes, frameworks, and partner relationships
Ensure full integration of design with operational and commercial strategies
Oversee technical assurance, compliance, and the embedding of health, safety, and sustainability throughout project delivery
Enable defect-free handover for operational service through robust engineering leadership
Qualifications
Extensive experience in design and engineering management within civil engineering or infrastructure
Proven leadership in developing design strategy and managing multidisciplinary teams
Strong understanding of compliance, technical assurance, and industry standards
A collaborative mindset, with the ability to influence across regions and partner organisations
A passion for innovation, safety, and sustainable delivery.
