Graduate Food Microbiologist - Mobile and Not Lab Based - Entry Level!

Are you a recent graduate passionate about food safety and microbiology? We’re looking for a Graduate Food Microbiologist to join our Group Technical Services team in a fast-paced, multi-category food manufacturing environment. This is an excellent opportunity to develop your technical expertise while helping to ensure our products meet the highest food safety and quality standards. Over time, you’ll grow into our in-house microbiology expert.


What you’ll do:

  • Oversee laboratory contract services, ensuring all routine microbiological testing on raw materials, in-process samples, finished products, and environmental swabs meet internal and industry standards.
  • Investigate out-of-specification results, support root cause analysis, and help implement preventative actions.
  • Maintain accurate laboratory records to ensure full traceability and compliance.
  • Support the validation and verification of cleaning processes across our sites.
  • Collaborate with production, technical, and engineering teams to carry out microbiological risk assessments for plant, product, and process.
  • Stay ahead of relevant legislation, scientific developments, and best practices in food microbiology.


What we’re looking for:

  • Degree (BSc, MSc, or PhD) in Food Microbiology, Microbiology, Food Science, or related discipline.
  • Understanding of microbiological testing techniques (e.g., plating, enrichment, PCR-based methods).
  • Ability to interpret microbiological results and communicate findings clearly to manufacturing teams.
  • Familiarity with common food pathogens (Salmonella, Listeria, E. coli) and spoilage organisms.
  • Knowledge of HACCP, GMPs, and standards such as BRCGS (desirable).
  • Strong attention to detail, analytical skills, and problem-solving ability.
  • Excellent organisational and communication skills.
  • A team player who can also work independently in a fast-moving environment.
  • Full Drivers License is essential
