General Manager - Engineering and Manufacturing
This highly respected British Engineering Company has become a leading brand in the food manufacturing sector. Working with a diverse client base that includes major blue-chip Plc’s and specialist business’s they have been able to maintain an agile and lean approach to their products. Having developed a reputation for quality and delivery they have become one of the market leaders, not just in the UK, but now on the international market.

This individual will be responsible for setting the overall business strategy and financial plan, and for leading the organisation to achieve its commercial, operational, and people objectives. The role provides strategic and operational leadership, working closely with shareholders, the Board, and key stakeholders to drive sustainable growth, performance, and innovation.
Key Responsibilities
Strategy & Business Leadership
* Set and deliver the primary business strategy and financial plan.
* Identify and drive business improvement initiatives, supported by clear and measurable performance metrics.
* Lead innovation and business development to secure new customers, markets, and product opportunities.
* Work collaboratively with shareholders, directors, group functions, partners, key customers, and suppliers to grow the business.
Financial & Commercial Management
* Ensure regular, accurate, and timely financial reporting, including P&L, balance sheet, and order book.
* Deliver strong financial and sales performance in line with agreed targets.
* Ensure the business has the appropriate resources, systems, and information to deliver results.
Operational Excellence
* Ensure effectiveness and efficiency across all operations and people.
* Ensure robust processes, procedures, and controls are in place and adhered to.
* Ensure all site, building, facility, and equipment records are maintained and up to date.
* Establish a clear meeting and communication rhythm to drive performance and accountability across the business.
People & Leadership
* Lead, develop, and motivate the Management Team to achieve company and departmental objectives.
* Set the standard for collaborative, cross-functional leadership and support.
* Build a high-performance culture focused on accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
Health & Safety
* Oversee the management of Health & Safety across all on-site and off-site activities.
* Ensure all activities are carried out safely and in compliance with relevant legislation and company standards.
Skills, Experience & Qualifications
* Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
* Proven experience within the food sector.
* Senior leadership experience within low-volume, engineered product manufacturing environments.
* Experience as a Managing Director (or equivalent) leading teams of 50+ employees.
* Demonstrable track record of delivering financial results and strong sales performance.
* Proven ability to lead, develop, and inspire management teams.
* Strong collaborative leadership skills with the ability to influence across functions.
* Strong IT and systems capability
