About the Role: As part of the team working in as a Fleet Technician you can make a real difference by supporting the provision of Fleet to our officers and staff across the second largest police force in the UK. The successful candidate will be based in our brand-new workshop in the West of Edinburgh
Responsibilities : Automotive/Fleet Technicians are responsible for the service, maintenance and repairing of vehicles placed under their care. They are responsible for identifying existing faults and detecting potential defects that could arise after further mileage. Inspecting vehicles to find faults Using computer software to diagnose defects in the vehicle or reset systems Selecting appropriate parts for vehicle repairs Fitting new parts and repairing damaged or worn-out parts
from servicing to full engine / gearbox replacements Road testing vehicles before and after repairs Carry out statutory inspection (MOT)
not essential The team also run mobile service vans, and any fleet technician could be asked to fulfil this role, it involves driving to Police stations to carry out basic repairs to reduce vehicle downtime - Please note this is not a roadside breakdown service that the team carry out, its at Police locations in controlled environments.
Qualifications Motor Vehicle Related Apprenticeship/City and Guilds Motor Vehicle (mechanical/electrical) Technicians 1 and 2 or equivalent. OR Proven experience in a motor vehicle workshop environment with a public or private sector operation, in a vehicle maintenance environment.
Required Skills Must have experience working on light vehicles i.e cars and small vans, so ideally looking for experience with motorcycles, quads, heavy goods vehicles and already qualified as an MOT tester, then any of these would be an added benefit - This not essential if qualified vehicle technician. Up to date knowledge of health and safety within a vehicle workshops. Previous experience in main dealership or similar type organisation. Must have a driving license - Essential. IMI Level 3 award in Electric/Hybrid vehicle system repair and replacement.

This is a full time and permanent post. The successful candidate must be able to pass Police Scotlands vetting process.
