Fire Engineer

NRL is proud to be recruiting a talented Fire Engineer on behalf of one of our prestigious clients, supporting a pioneering nuclear programme driving the future of energy. What You’ll Be Doing:
Carry out internal fire safety assessments across all Nuclear Island buildings, ensuring key safety functions are maintained in the event of a fire.
Ensure full compliance with UK fire codes and safety standards through rigorous evaluation and modelling.
Use 3D models and engineering calculations to assess fire protection needs, based on client and architect-engineer requirements.
Identify combustible materials and potential fire risks using model analysis.
Conduct temperature variation simulations to assess fire scenarios, using specialist tools such as MAGIC software.
Evaluate potential damage to systems and ensure functional redundancy is considered in design updates.
Coordinate updates from multi-disciplinary teams, including changes to electrical systems, cable trays, and ventilation layouts.
Perform fire life safety and fire protection regulatory assessments.
Propose practical solutions to reduce the likelihood of fire outbreaks and improve plant safety.
Define fire zones within buildings and recommend suitable detection and firefighting systems for rapid response.
Complete detailed fire protection calculations using dedicated software tools.
Support internal teams and contractors in understanding and applying fire protection requirements.
Justify any deviations from BS9999 with clear, documented assessments.
What You’ll Need:
A degree or equivalent qualification in engineering, with a focus on fire safety and/or fire protection technologies.
Strong understanding of UK fire safety standards and codes, including BS9999 and ETCF (EPR technical code for fire).
Hands-on experience with fire protection calculations and related modelling software.
Proven ability to propose effective fire detection and protection strategies.
Strong interpersonal skills, enthusiasm for fire safety engineering, and a conscientious approach to work.
Ability to perform under pressure and meet project deadlines with accuracy.
Desirable:
Familiarity with collaborative engineering environments, including interaction with civil, systems, and plant layout engineers.
