Join to apply for the Financial Director role at Roots Allotments.
Consumer Additions retained by Roots Allotments to find an exceptional Finance Director/CFO. The business is building the world’s largest community‑growing infrastructure platform — transforming unused land into profitable, regenerative, people‑focused ecosystems.
We operate 20 live communities today, will double to 40 UK sites next year, and are launching our first U.S. flagship in Austin, Texas.
Roots has:
- Site‑level EBITDA delivery and proven capex payback logic
- 150% YoY revenue growth versus only 20% HQ cost increase
- Replicable demand engine with waiting list momentum
Having raised investment through well‑known and well‑regarded PE/VC firms, the business is on fast growth trajectory both within the UK (road map to 200 sites in a short space of time) and also internationally with sites in the US and other international markets.
ROLE MANDATE
This role exists to build Roots’ financial operating system, capital architecture, pricing intelligence, site rollout discipline, and investment proof language.
This is a decision‑making leadership role, not an advisory finance function.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- You are the CEO’s first strategic partner, the designer of economics, the architect of truth, and the guardian of compounding value.
- Commercial Finance and FP&A: Build multi‑site P&L systems, run performance truth across UK + U.S., drive investment‑grade clarity into the business, lead pricing analysis and modelling across all variations of patch types, develop market‑responsive frameworks, generate hypotheses and tests using field economics.
- Co‑lead with the CEO on current raise and future £200m+ rounds, debt strategy and bank relationships, investor readiness, data room creation, valuation narratives and due diligence; set the capital story and the numbers behind it.
- Roots Marketplace & Roots at Home — Working Capital & Product Economics: Own inventory economics, margin protection, demand forecasting, contribution tracking.
- Investment Committee & Rollout Governance: For every location, provide EBITDA projection, sensitivity analysis, ROI and payback intelligence.
- Business Partnering: Lead creation of the pack, works with Head of Land and Head of Growth, advises CEO and escalates risks to Board.
- Treasury & Liquidity Control: Forecast cash, course‑correct behaviour, maintain visibility through live dashboards.
CANDIDATE PROFILE
- Experienced CFO/FD candidates or first‑time candidates relevant.
- Scale‑up / rollout model finance leadership.
- Commercial finance / FP&A and unit economics experience.
- Pricing literacy and analysis.
- Low‑ego, high‑horsepower execution ability.
- Fast growth experience would be very helpful.
- Multisite and international experience a preference.
