Join Our Team as a Traffic Engineer

We're looking for a passionate and forward-thinking Traffic Engineer to join our Planning and Transportation team in Hackney. Working alongside the Senior Traffic Engineer, you'll play a key role in shaping safe, sustainable, and people-focused transport systems in one of London's most vibrant and diverse boroughs.

What You'll Do

• Support or lead (depending on experience level) on the design, consultation, and implementation of a wide range of traffic engineering and transportation schemes.
• Carry out traffic and site surveys, collect and analyse transport data.
• Ensure all statutory, legal, and safety obligations are met in line with Council and guidelines.
• Prepare technical drawings, reports, and consultation documents.
• Engage with the public, statutory bodies, and internal stakeholders to ensure effective delivery of projects.
• Use IT tools to manage, assess, and improve service delivery.
• Help deliver continuous improvement through Best Value practices.

What We're Looking For

Essential Skills & Experience:

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including report writing and public engagement.
• Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
• Experience or understanding of traffic engineering, ideally in an urban setting.
• Ability to interpret plans and technical drawings.
• Knowledge of traffic engineering legislation and inner-city transport challenges.
• Commitment to equal opportunities and inclusive service delivery.

Desirable:

• Degree or HNC in a relevant discipline.
• Experience supervising or mentoring others (for higher grade candidates).

Note: Payment grade will depend on qualifications, experience, and responsibilities undertaken.
