Technical Assistant – Environmental Protection


Location: Staffordshire (Hybrid Working – You will need to be onsite for inspections/site visits)

Rate: Up to £45p/h (Inside IR35)

Contract: 6 months (potential for extension)

Hours: Full-time preferred | Part-time considered

Start date: ASAP


Our client is looking for two proactive Technical Assistants to support the Environmental Protection Team. If your background includes experience in Air Quality, Pollution Prevention and Control (LAPPC), or Private Water Supplies, we want to hear from you – you don’t need experience in all three areas.


About the Role

You’ll play a key role in helping the Council meet its statutory and non-statutory environmental responsibilities. This includes:


Key Focus Areas (roles may vary depending on your experience and expertise):

Local Authority Pollution Prevention and Control (LAPPC):

  • Supporting Part A2 and Part B process regulation
  • Managing new applications and older permits
  • Conducting follow-ups (approx. 30 permitted premises)

Air Quality:

  • Supporting the Air Quality Annual Status Report (ASR) submission
  • Reviewing technical reports
  • Contributing to the Air Quality Action Plan
  • Potential involvement in contaminated land investigations

Private Water Supplies:

  • Conducting sampling and risk assessments across ~ approx 43 supplies
  • Accreditation as a sampler (or willingness to become accredited) is essential


Requirements

  • Relevant technical experience in at least one of the key focus areas
  • Comfortable conducting fieldwork and inspections
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to review reports and interpret data
  • Knowledge of environmental protection legislation and practices
  • Experience in a local authority or regulatory setting
