The Role
Our client is seeking a dedicated and resilient English Teacher to support children and young people within a specialist, community-based provision across East London.
This is a unique opportunity to deliver high-quality English education outside of a traditional classroom environment, working with pupils who may struggle to engage in mainstream education due to complex needs, including social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) challenges.
The role involves delivering personalised, therapeutic-informed English teaching in a range of real-world settings such as libraries, community centres, and other local environments. The position is offered on a long-term agency basis, with strong potential to transition into a permanent role.
The successful candidate will support pupils to develop literacy, communication skills, and confidence, while helping them re-engage positively with education.
Key Responsibilities
The English Teacher will:
* Plan and deliver engaging English lessons tailored to individual pupil needs and EHCP targets
* Adapt teaching approaches to support pupils with SEMH needs, neurodiversity, and literacy gaps
* Deliver lessons in community-based settings using creative and practical approaches
* Support the development of reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills
* Monitor, assess, and track pupil progress, providing regular feedback and reports
* Use consistent, therapeutic-informed behaviour management strategies
* Work collaboratively with therapeutic staff, families, and external professionals
* Conduct and review risk assessments for all off-site learning activities
* Maintain accurate records in line with safeguarding and data protection requirements
* Ensure all safeguarding policies and procedures are followed at all times

Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate will be a passionate and adaptable English Teacher with experience supporting learners with additional needs.
Essential requirements:
* Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent
* Experience teaching English (KS2–KS4 desirable)
* Experience working with pupils with SEMH needs and/or additional learning needs
* Strong understanding of safeguarding and inclusive teaching practices
Desirable:
* Experience in alternative provision or community-based education
* Ability to deliver creative, engaging English lessons outside a traditional classroom
* Knowledge of differentiated teaching strategies for disengaged learners
