Our Opportunity
We are seeking a proactive and experienced Engineering Delivery Manager (EDM) to join our UK team to lead the engineering across our Light Rail Portfolio.
The Light Rail Portfolio encompasses:
A range of high profile projects to upgrade and expand upon our commissioned solution for Manchester Metro-Link, Mobilisation and delivery of engineering for our recent project win to be Sheffield Tram Technology Partner, Bidding, winning and successfully mobilising a number of forthcoming UK opportunities within the Light Rail market segment.
This is a high-impact role requiring strong technical & people leadership, stakeholder engagement, and delivery oversight across a complex, multi-project portfolio.
You will work closely with European counterparts, UK-based engineering and field teams and with multiple other stakeholders across the portfolio, including heavy customer engagement to ensure seamless coordination, technical governance, and delivery of key systems engineering activities.
This is a hybrid role working a minimum of two days per week from our Cheadle office in Greater Manchester, with regular travel to customer sites.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and oversee the engineering projects within the portfolio from initiation to completion, ensuring they are delivered on time, within scope, on budget, and in accordance with the defined tools, practices and processes as set out in the relevant Business Management System and project specific Engineering Management Plans
Lead and oversee the delivery of the engineering scope within our bids and business development activities
Develop and own the engineering approach across the portfolio of Light Rail projects within the UK – ensuring consistency and efficiency
Ensure that engineering projects meet high-quality standards and adhere to best practices in software and hardware development
Be visible and influential with our international teams and the customer, building trust, credibility and collaboration
Support the development and growth of the engineering team within the Light Rail Portfolio
Identify potential project risks and opportunities. Develop mitigation/exploitation strategies to ensure project success
Support portfolio meetings and provide technical input to schedule updates and narrative comments.
Track and manage Contract Deliverables, acting as the main point of contact for customer engineering and technical concerns and assurance documentation.
Maintain and evolve the Product Breakdown Structure (PBS) and associated WBS/OBS documentation.
Offer technical support to contractors and lead 1-to-1 sessions with customers to resolve emergent technical issues.
Own and coordinate solution level engineering gate reviews (e.g., PDR, CDR) throughout the engineering lifecycle
Support programme reporting (PMR, KPI packs), internal/external technical meetings, and quality assurance reviews.
Technical Skills and Experience
Proven experience in systems engineering management within rail or infrastructure projects, covering all aspects of the project and product lifecycle. Experience within a Light Rail Context a bonus, not a necessity
Experience of growing and scaling portfolio of projects in line with business needs
Experience and knowledge of whole systems engineering lifecycles for large complex systems
A breadth of experience and competence across engineering disciplines
Excellent leadership, communication, stakeholder management, motivation and inter-personal
Human Skills
Ability to build and sustain strong working relationships at all levels
Ability to lead multiple projects simultaneously, identify priorities and delegations
Demonstrated ability to lead, manage, mentor and coach diverse teams
Demonstrable experience in achieving buy-in from strong technical stakeholders
Strong understanding of configuration management, migration strategies, and technical documentation.
Comfortable working in a matrixed, international environment with remote and on-site teams.
Skilled in stakeholder engagement, technical coordination, and agile delivery practices.
Familiarity with tools such as ASITE, Power BI, and engineering efficiency metrics is a plus.
